Connecting Stripe lets you offer card payment as an option on your invoices. It’s a separate step from signup — you can send invoices with manual payment methods before connecting it.
Before you begin
You’ll need a Stripe account (or you can create one during the connection flow) and the business details Stripe requires to verify your account.
Steps
- Go to Settings → Payments.
- Select Connect Stripe.
- Complete Stripe’s own onboarding flow: business details and a bank account for payouts.
- Once connected, Stripe card payment becomes an option you can offer on new invoices.
What happens next
Settings → Payments shows your Stripe account as connected. From then on, you can select card payment as a payment option when creating or editing an invoice, alongside bank transfer, cash, or check.
Important behavior and limitations
- Connecting Stripe is optional and not part of the signup wizard — you’re never required to connect it before invoicing.
- Stripe handles card data directly; SimplePayment never sees or stores full card numbers.
- Stripe’s own account verification and payout timing are controlled by Stripe, not by SimplePayment.
- Card payments aren’t available on an invoice until Stripe is connected.
